The youth context in Bucks

We’ve just released the first phase of the place-based work we’re doing with The Rothschild Foundation to support youth transitions in Buckinghamshire.

As part of the project, I’ve mapped the indicators available at small-area geographies, to help provide a granular picture of how characteristics, needs, and assets are distributed at a neighbourhood level.

It’s been a powerful opportunity to demonstrate how young people living in hard-pressed parts of more ‘affluent’ areas of the country can be overlooked. This is something I’ve done a decade of research on, and wrote about in Young People on the Margins.

This project’s offered me the chance to use some exciting new datasets, including the Community Needs Index, TUNDRA, the Digital Vulnerability Index and DfT Journey time statistics.

The next phase of the project will be a wide-ranging consultation with young people and key partners from local government, statutory services, business, and the community and voluntary sector to hear their perspectives and identify consensus for action.
